Joan's at that age where she remembers what she did and heard, and I don't want the rest of the world to be the only voice she hears. I'm not naive in thinking that I can shield my kids from everything secular, especially when I live a pretty secular life by most standards. But we can teach them to find Christ in all things and we can instill in them a desire for more, more than anything the world can offer. And we'll pray that they'll seek that fulfillment in Christ alone.
So while Halloween will still be celebrated by Those Landrys with candy and costumes, the Communion of Saints, the Church Triumphant and the Church Penitent, will not be forgotten. I'm using this article here as a guide in making this weekend a holy weekend.
And in the meantime, you should prepare yourselves for two of the most adorable, costumed little girls on the planet... Pictures coming soon.

So, I read/skimmed most of your link. I'm trying to think of some age appropriate ways to celebrate (I always forget those holidays on the first of the month, since I don't "see" them on the calendar until the day of. We are doing a "saints parade" but I think I'll skip the "poor soul" thing in the cemetary :)

Thanks for the links - I'll check them out. We're skipping the poor souls cemetery thing, too. But I will take her out there on all souls day to gain a plenary indulgence. Keeping it simple, here's what I think we'll do:
-eat donuts (eternity is never ending) or maybe even the soul cakes if I can get my act together enough to bake them
- light the four candles for the departed family, friends, clergy, and forgotten
-we'll say the litany of saints - hopefully Joan can get through it, if not we might shorten it to more familiar saints
-waiting to eat our halloween candy until Monday to celebrate with the saints
I miss you guys and I wish we could celebrate everything together... oh well. Tell everyone I say hi!
